Mt. Juliet salutes Navy veteran who died last week

The Mt. Juliet Police Department announced it would lead an escort Tuesday for local Navy veteran Benjamin Kyle Torrence who died July 26.

Mr. Torrence was 25-years-old. He was stationed in Pensacola, Fla., according to Sellars Funeral Home in Mt. Juliet, which is handling funeral arrangements.

The police escort was scheduled on North Mt. Juliet Road at approximately 5:30-6 p.m. after starting at Nashville International Airport. Members of the U.S. Navy, American Legion, and Mt. Juliet Police Department were scheduled to participate in the escort and the public was encouraged to line North Mt. Juliet Road with flags.

Mr. Torrence graduated from Overton High School and his military career with the navy included service in Guam on a special mission, according to the family. His family now lives in Mt. Juliet, according to Sellars Funeral Home.

Mr. Torrence is survived by mother, Stephanie Lightfoot, father, Daniel Lightfoot, sibling Samantha (Trey) Geisenhoffer; grandparents Bill and Cindy Torrence, uncle Will Torrence, cousin Haley Torrence and niece Ava Geisenhoffer.

Visitation was scheduled for 7-9 p.m., Tuesday at Sellars Funeral Home, 2229 N. Mt. Juliet Road, Mt. Juliet.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, Nashville.
